LML Energy FX : Road test by Dilip Bam

FUEL EFFICIENCY:
To quantify my pocket power, I did extensive fuel consumption tests under various traffic conditions. Following are the results I got.

1) At almost steady 40 kph on open road with no gear changing and no stopping over a distance of 5.4 km of level road, the bike consumed 70 cc of petrol, giving an average of 77 km per litre.

2) Next I did a test in normal afternoon light traffic over 4.35 km at speeds up to 60 kph with two gear changes and no stopping, it gave 52 km per litre.

3) Then I did a test on an up-slope (climbing up), quite fast with speeds up to 70 kph, gear changings and overtakings. Over a distance of 2.1 km it gave 42 km per litre.

4) Then finally on the way back home on a partly mild down-slope but mostly trafficked flat road, over a distance of seven km, it gave an average of 69 km per litre.

From the above, you will realize, that there is no magic figure of 60 kmpl or 70 kmpl or 80 kmpl which ANY bike will give under ALL conditions. It all depends how how you drive a bike. As you can see from the above, you push the bike (as in (3) above), you get only 42 kmpl. But if you ride gently and the traffic is sparse (as in (1) above), you get 77 kmpl. So fuel average depends more on the rider and less on the bike. I have found that exactly the same holds true for any bike, be it Hero Honda, Bajaj, TVS, Kinetic or even BULLET. The key to fuel efficiency is on the rider, not the bike. This applies equally to two-stroke as well as four-stroke.

Fact is, the general, in-city fuel average of the FX is better than one imagines - definitely.

More than 55 kmpl, and closer to sixty. I say this because I always forget when I had last filled petrol in it - and I never ever fill the tank to full. So as far as fuel economy goes, this bike, the FX is right there with the best of the economy class.
