ROAD
HANDLING:
The
seating posture (seat-footrest-handlebar geometry) is close to ideal.
Long rides are highly comfortable and absolutely fatigue free, except
for the cusp in the seat. Maybe it is my personal piccadillo (pee
ke dhilla?) that I dislike seats with cusp, but it is my ass which
is under arrest (in the cusp) be it CBZ, Caliber or FX, and I don't
like my ass to be under arrest.
Road holding is excellent - thanks to the FAT rear tyre. Braking
too is excellent, partly because of the FAT tyre as also because
the brakes are really good. Handling is great and leaning into corners
is a breeze. FAT tyre again. Straight line stability is good and
effect of strong crosswinds though felt, especially on the Thane
Creek Bridge (entering Mumbai from Pune) on hot afternoons, is much
less un-nerving than any other bike in this class.
The FX is also a head turner. It has the "BIG BIKE" looks,
and people who are not in the know, are apt to think that even engine-wise,
this bike is bigger than it actually is, and yet is as frugal on
fuel as any other bike in this class. A plus point again.
The
35 watt headlight is about as good or as bad as any other bike in
this class. This is a general letdown on most bikes in this class
or any other class for that matter. What bikers need for safe night
riding on highways (something I do very frequently) is 65 watts
of headlight power and Bullet Electra type beam quality. I hope,
wish and pray that LML and all other bike makers will take note
of this so that more bikers can live longer with lesser bones broken.
All in all, the road behavior of the FX is at least two notches
above (better than) other bikes in this class. Indeed, if one was
not told that this is an "economy" class bike, one would
be apt to think that this is a higher class bike - in all respects.
