The
Pulsar 150 DTS-i went back for a tune-up this month. In
spite of her going through the rigours of a full fledged
service the last month she was still not performing up to
the mark. Pick up and acceleration was poor, starting off
from traffic lights. I even had to drag the clutch on several
occasions to get her rolling. Early morning cold starts
are also turning out to be more problematic, even more so
since it does get quite cool early in the mornings now that
winter is just round the corner. The electric starter just
cant seem to get the engine cranked up and I have
to resort to kick-starting it, not that its a bad
practise but this keeps happening every time I leave her
idle for more than an hour. Nevertheless getting my hands
on her after the tune-up, she does show loads of improvement.
Acceleration is brisk without her faltering, cold morning
starts are still finicky though this I now think is purely
because of the season. Fuel efficiency too is now up to
the mark, spacing my trips to the fuel stations to a week
plus.
There are however a couple of issues that still need sorting
out. The first of these is the speedo cable which has stopped
functioning altogether so I fail to get an odo reading to
tell me how much I have covered and its only because
the Pulsar has been travelling a fixed distance known to me
that I am able to gauge her fuel efficiency. The second: getting
her rear brake liners replaced before they wear themselves
clean.
