PROMISED PERFORMANCE MONITOR 2001
154
HERO HONDA SPLENDOR 15th
The largest selling bike in the world has been reported to have above industry average problems with instrumentation, locks, switchgear, the body as well as driving problems. The saving grace is an engine that has only 7 more problems per 100 vehicles than the top-ranked bike and a low number of problems on the miscellaneous items.
160
YAMAHA CRUX 16th
With two of its 4-stroke stablemates finishing amongst the top three motorcycles, it is surprising that the Crux finishes only 16th. It is let down by a high incidence of problems in its engine, six above the industry average of 78. Other high problem areas are locks, lights and wheels. The transmission comes out just better than the motorcycle category average.
166
LML ADRENO 17th
The manufacturer of the highest ranked two-wheeler needs to improve on its first attempt in the motorcycle segment. Improvements are needed in the instrumentation, lights and transmission as problems are higher than the industry average. The locks though on the Adreno are nearly problem-free with just one bike in a hundred having problems.
171
BAJAJ SAFFIRE 18th
The average number of problems per hundred vehicles for the scooter category comes to 170. The Saffire just surpasses this by just one problem per 100 vehicles to fall below the category average. The scooter suffers from serious incidence of problems in instrumentation, handle and miscellaneous items.
183
KINETIC ZX 19th
While its stablemate, the Marvel is second on the scooters list, the ZX suffers from nearly twice as many problems per vehicle to languish in 19th place overall. The scooter has been reported to have problems in all areas of its functioning with the only saving grace being the body and wheels.
185
HERO HONDA CD 100 SS 20th
The Hero Honda CD100 SS just managed to cross the industry average and is ninth on the motorcycle list with a lot of problems being reported from the transmission. Miscellaneous items and fitments also have above industry average incidence of problems as do locks and the handle. Instrumentation and switchgear though is of good quality.
187
BAJAJ CHETAK 21st
Incidence of problems in engine and transmission and body and wheel is extremely high. One should thank relatively better quality of instrumentation and handle along with locks, control knobs and lights which has helped Chetak touch the industry average.
