The
M80 Major 4S excels as a practical city runabout for riding
one up. Two aboard and she feels decidedly cramped. As it
is, the riding position is pretty unergonomic and the back
starts feeling the strain after even a short ride. The split
seat also makes life difficult while riding solo, you sit
on the split. That's a shame as the seat is nice and firm
unlike other Bajaj bike seats.
The M80 has been built to last and the strengthened chassis
and suspension can handle the rough very well. However the
rider is given a good shake by the firm suspension. The
bike is very minimalistic and has been built to a price.
The switchgear is low-rent and your money only gets you
a speedometer. On the other hand the step thru' design will
hold great appeal for women especially the sari-clad. And
the Fuel Efficiency will make
regular tank-ups a thing of the past.
That the M80 Major 4S is a marked improvement over the earlier
model is without doubt. She has caught up with the Kinetic
K4-100 and in most respects even bettered her. However she
still has some way to go if she wishes to match the refinement
and finish of the Hero Honda Street Smart.
Where Bajaj holds the trump card is in the pricing stakes.
Priced at Rs 28,545 on-road in Pune, she is almost 8000
rupees cheaper than the Street Smart and around 6000 rupees
cheaper than the Kinetic K4-100. In a segment as price-conscious,
this represents a wide gulf between similarly positioned
products. And along with the excellent Fuel
Efficiency, this bike is sure to appeal to all M80
loyalists while simultaneously luring more enthusiasts into
the Bajaj fold. |
