  Engine & Transmission

Make no mistake about the powerpack, it comes from a maker noted for sheer reliability and strong Performance. The engine employs a cast iron block and an aluminium-alloy cylinder head. There is a chain-driven single overhead cam operating an inlet and an exhaust valve breathing through a side draft 15mm venturi Keihin instrument. Honda claims a 7bhp output (at 7000rpm) and 7.85Nm of torque at 5500rpm. The engine also employs a crankcase emission control system plus a pulse secondary air injection system to clean up tail pipe emissions.

There is nothing majorly different in the transmission which is typical of the variomatic system seen on the Kinetic Hondas. However what HMSI has done is to manufacture the variator belt to very precise tolerances and also keep consistent the weight and dimensions of the variator weights, the latter causing some concern on the earlier two-stroke machines. A dry automatic centrifugal clutch is used and the Activa comes with both kick and electric starter.
