The
all new 99.1cc engine develops a class leading 8.5bhp at
9000rpm and 7.35Nm of torque at 6500rpm. The advantages
of a multi-valve engine having two small inlet valves instead
of one large and heavy valve which at very high rpm is likely
to bounce and hit the piston. The major advantages are that
you can have very low valve angles so there is less of a
chance for the fresh charge to escape out of the exhaust
especially in a four-valve head since you have the spark
plug located right in the middle of the combustion chamber.
The multi-valve cylinder head always makes for better burning
then any two-valver can ever deliver. With better combustion
of fuel and air you get more power with less wastage of
fuel and therefore better mileage. By extension, being a
more efficient engine means it is also better for the environment.
The
adoption of a Keihin PC18 carburettor is another key to
the engine's Performance The
gearbox felt like a dream on both motorcycles. The Energy
has a four-speed box and the Adreno has an additional cog.
The gear ratios are really well matched to the power curve
of the engine and to top it all the shift quality on both
the bikes I found to be extremely light and slick. I did
not encounter a single false neutral during the Performance testing and none of our team ever complained once of a missed
gear or such.
