I
have been racing motorcycles for the last 23 years and personally
also use big capacity motorcycles. So it is very rare that
a 100cc motorcycle impresses me with its Performance and handling. With the three-valve engine delivering strong
torque in the low and mid range either of the two machines
is a lot of fun to ride around town on.
Given
the fact that LML has geared the bikes more towards everyday
city riding with driveability as top priority, one would
be disappointed with the low top end speeds. But then the
acceleration and roll-on figures more than dispel the gloom.
The Energy is the quicker and the faster of the duo thanks
to the large front area of the Adreno's fairing inducing
drag in a pronounced manner! In our tests we had the Energy
clocking a 93.4kmph top speed with the Adreno a shade slower
at 91.8kmph! The same holds true in the sprints as well
as the roll-ons but it is a close run thing. The Energy
does the zero to 60kmph sprint in 10.5 seconds while the
Adreno is almost a second slower at 11.3 seconds! Also to
be taken into account is the overall weight of both bikes,
the Energy tipping the scales at 115kg while the Adreno
is five kilos heavier, making them the heaviest bikes in
their class. So when their Performance in the sprint, roll-on and top speeds are taken into consideration,
the Energy and Adreno come out with flying colours.
And if you want to ride the bikes say from Pune to Ahmednagar
and back or to Satara, Kolhapur, Mahableshwar, etc and back,
one will appreciate the strong cruising capability with
a near fatigue-free riding position and firm but well padded
seat.
The
combination of a strong chassis, the longer wheelbase, the
superb riding position, the footwear employed (2.75x18 tyre
up front and the large 100/90x18 at the rear) plus the optimised
suspension and steering geometry all add upto making the
Energy and the Adreno the best handlers in the business
among Indian mobikes. This is a big claim but true nonetheless.
One ride and you will understand. On the trip from Pune
to Ahmednagar and back was when I really got to know the
two bikes well. I was glad that I had to do it on them and
not other 100cc mobikes because they held rock steady even
with side winds hammering at me and machine. Even at a steady
80kmph, I was able to take most of the corners without rolling
off the throttle. Just aim the bike in the direction you
intend it to go and the Adreno/Energy do the job with hardly
a twitch or wallow. The MRF tyres play an immensely huge
part in this as does the excellent steering geometry. The
LML team has obviously got the handling spot on and what's
more it has done so without compromising on ride quality.
Really a most competent first effort, no doubt. |
