Simple
mechanics add much needed boost.
The
first and one of a kind 3-valve per cylinder, 4-stroke SOHC
engine displaces 109.15cc. The 10cc upgrade is derived by
increasing the bore to 53mm with stroke length retained
at 49.5mm compared to the previous 99.1cc unit with a bore
size of 50.5mm increases max power to 8.9bhp (at 8500rpm).
Though the 0.4bhp increase in power over the 8.5bhp of the
older unit may not seem significant, the new engine develops
this power at a lower 8500rpm compared to the older unit
where power surges at a higher 9000rpm. This results in
generation of a greater 8.34Nm of torque at just 6000rpm.
Higher torque at a lower rpm essentially translates to reduction
in downshifting to call on requisite power. An added advantage
should be lower fuel consumption, which will be delved into
later. This time around LML has sacrificed top end grunt
for increase in mid range power to improve driveability.
Further, the 3-valve configuration allows better combustion
than any 2-valve unit by improving power and increasing
efficiency. A Keihin carburettor with the same 18mm venturi
improves overall Performance.
The frequent stalling of the engine in idle could primarily
be due to a lean burn setup.
The gearbox on the Energy FX involves an all-up shift pattern
as opposed to the older unit. While the Adreno FX makes
do with the universal one-down four-up pattern. The increase
in ratios matches the power curve of the engine. The shift
quality is slick and slotting into any gear requires only
a gentle tap. There was never a false neutral encountered
in over 300km. Another plus for the LML siblings!
