SPACE
AND PRACTICALITY
All
these scooters will be put on the daily shopping/errand-running
cycle and thus storage space is very important. The Honda
Activa sports an underseat storage compartment that surprisingly
d oesn't
hold a full face helmet. A front glove box doesn't come
as standard costing 665 rupees at the dealer point, and
so does a side stand costing an additional 100 bucks. The
optional glove box in any case is too shallow and narrow
to serve any purpose.
On the practicality front, the Honda is a winner. For one
there is the CLIC engine cover that swivels up at the removal
of two screws to reveal the entire engine. The Honda also
rides on MRF Nylogrips that feature the Tuffup double-layered
tubes, which can seal up small and medium sized punctures.
Eliminates the hassle of carrying a spare tyre around
though if you insist, it can be fitted at the dealer point.
Underseat storage on the Saffire is huge, adequate to store
a proper full face helmet. The front glove box though can
store just that - gloves. Ease of access to the mechanicals
isn't a plus point on the Saffire, access to the engine necessitating removal of the entire
rear bodywork in addition to the seat. Thankfully the battery
has now been moved from under the floorboard to below the
seat.
The Marvel boasts the largest storage space here. Underseat
storage can accommodate a fullface helmet while the front
glove box has genuine usable volume. Accessibility to the
engine isn't too complicated as on the Saffire, but not
as easy as on the Activa.
The Zoom ZX fares very poorly on the space front. No underseat
storage space and an undersized front glove
box necessitate the installation of baskets on the floorboard
and even on the front apron. Tough task to get anybody to
go for a spot of shopping on the Zoom without additional
baskets.
A
word of praise for Kinetic, all Zoom ZX's come with a complimentary
Vega helmet, very good and a smart move. However the Marvel
doesn't come with a helmet, the logic behind which I fail
to understand. |
