PRETTY,
PETITE & PLUCKY!
TVS are at it again. Continuing in the brilliant vein as the Victor
and the Fiero F2 has not been easy but establishing themselves as
two-wheeler makers par excellence is now becoming a reality. The Scooty
Pep is the next step in their endeavour.
Riding
the new Scooty Pep in and around Pune city the last couple of weeks
has been a revelation. Of the pleasantest, and of the most distinctly
attention grabbing kind. And almost all of the attention has been
from the female of the species; the college going teen, the business-attired
sophisticate, and even the housewife next door has not been immune
to casting covert or not so covert looks at the diminutive Pep.
Launched sometime in the mid-nineties the Scooty had all the trappings
of a best-seller. A refined powerplant, excellent dynamics, contemporary
styling (for its time) and a host of other traits had the TVS-Suzuki
cash registers ringing. Quite a complete package among the step-thru
lot. Come the new millennium and the eco corps and the crusade for
a cleaner environs sounded the death knell for two-stroke biking the
world over. Which was the first nail in the coffin for the two-stroke
Scooty. And then the market saw a rash of new scoots which were as
contemporary if not better than the Scooty. All the same the four-strokers
boom saw a complete transformation in the biking scenario. Which has
served to bring about a complete revamp of the Scooty by TVS.
Year 2003 is an important one for TVS, with the launch of almost six
models spanning almost every motorcycling segment. The wave that began
with the Fiero F2 is now continued by the Scooty Pep. |
