 Styling & Build Quality

Red or blue, heads will turn every time she passes by.

The Scooty Pep has its share of aficionados and detractors. The male commuter has not been swayed by the delicious curves or scrumptious attire of the Scooty Pep. But voila! the fair species seems to all go weak-kneed at the sight and sound of the Scooty.

Get down to analyse its charisma and it’s the simple two-tone paint job that is the crux of the allure. The metallic shades of red or blue combined with the liberal splash of silver across the lower section endow the Scooty Pep with instant visual appeal later accentuated by her fluid lines and lithe curves.

The bike’s svelte proportions highlight every nuance from the tip of the front apron all the way to the tail lamps. Unlike her predecessor there are no angular lines on the Pep. Every curve has been crafted with accent on detailing which is precisely executed: like the cowl under the handlebars on the front apron with a carbon-fibre finish that sports the TVS logo and the galloping horse emblem; the tiny recesses carved into the side panels under the floorboard to house the footpegs; the anodised aluminium grabrail wrapped around the pillion seat; the lamp on the rear mudguard that lights up the number plate. The headlamp and indicators gleam inside their clear lens covers. Such details have been exquisitely crafted and add to the overall allure. Soft touch switches housed on the handlebars are within easy reach. The rear-view mirror stalks are the only ungainly bits and shorter stalks would be in keeping with her pin-up model visage. The instrument cluster houses speedo and fuel gauge but fails to carry forward the dominant design theme of this eye-catching scoot. The rear end also has been distinctively crafted with a neat tail lamp section. Though the wide dimensions of the rear end are apparent, it does not mar the semblance of neatness and uniformity.
TVS has paid enormous attention to the detailing and every aspect has been executed to fit into the overall theme. (Clockwise from left) Rear end has a nicely sculpted tail lamp incorporating large blinkers. Sculpted seats is another example of quality finishing with an attractive grabrail closely hugging the contours of the seat. Twin hook hangars can carry up to a 20kg load below which are the slits to feed air and cool the engine. Instrument cluster lacks finesse and fails to gel with the overall style elements though it adequately houses a fuel guage and the indicators for power and economy modes. Switchgear is top notch. Large recess under the handlebar is additional storage space for bottles, cans and such.

Liberal use of plastics for various body parts ensure the weight is kept low and more importantly that replacements of parts will be pocket friendly. But it is the quality of fit and finish that is truly impressive. TVS has put the Scooty Pep through stringent quality checks and no surprise, our test bike exhibited no single flaw, no yawning gaps, nor loose screws and bolts, no dithering gauges and most decidedly no rattles and squeaks.
