Meaningful
motorcycle sales in the country revolve around the near-100cc
four-stroke class. It doesn't require much utilisation of
the grey matter to conclude that a model in this segment
is mandatory for all the manufacturers to survive. With
two-strokes and scooters unable to strike the right note
with buyers, it becomes even more important to have the
correct mix of economy and desirability packaged in the
proper proportions in a motorcycle that would have significance
beyond simple transportation. Although the confirmed market
leader in this segment is not under any serious threat,
there seems to be some opportunity to stake a claim lower
down the ladder, and with the right product (difficult to
define) come closer to the top.
TVS has made no attempt to grab the initiative as it did
with its two-stroke AX100. In fact the Victor is the last
one out of the gates, so to speak. Whether this was due
to the manufacturer waiting in the wings to evaluate the
competition, to firm up its own product configuration, or
because the indigenous effort took a bit longer than expected
is not really relevant. What is though is whether it will
find the patronage to establish itself strongly in the long
run.
