It
is plain for everyone to see that the bike all two-wheeler manufacturers
want to beat is the Hero Honda Splendor. While there are bikes which
match the Splendor in every respect, they do not sell one-third as
much and that is a bit trifling. The Victor is a bike which outperforms
it, comprehensively - there I have said it - and potentially should
take the fight to this great Indian classic. That will be monitored
over the months but for now let's talk Performance,
chaps.
Prepare to be amazed, is the first positive aspect many bikers would
be keen to hear. The clutch is lightly loaded but quick actuating
and the all down shift pattern is precise and slick but with good
mechanical feel.
The
most important thing is that the bike is carburetted exceedingly well
and that is what gets half the job done. Add to that the digital ignition
with the choice of plotted down ignition curves and the power delivery
is smooth and linear, plus forceful! One very important aspect of
the bike's Performance is the mechanical
smoothness of the engine. Harne's men are a class act when it comes
to engines and the amount of power sapping and fuel guzzling mechanical
friction they have managed to iron out is fantastic.
Talking purely from a Performance point
of view, I was amazed at the killer mid-range which this bike has
without trace of harsh judder or such when wringing the throttle open
and working the gearbox in traffic or out on the open roads. While
the bike is not designed to set speed records, we did record a 90.9kmph
top speed which is not bad at all for what will be a very strong commuter
machine.
But I would very much like you all to focus on the acceleration figures
which is where the Victor excels. Zero to 60kmph in 8.1 seconds is
great while zero to 80kmph was achieved in 14.56 seconds. If that
is not all, the surge you experience while going up the gearbox all
the way to the torque peak is delightful, especially to a diehard
motorcyclist. And being a bike which is so easy to take to, the Victor
will make many friends for itself because of its undaunting nature.
