Many
bikes have gear position indicators to inform their riders in which
cog they are slotted in. Helps control fuel consumption. Then there
are bikes with tachometers which help you place an eye on the revs
for the same purpose. And then all bikes have a green band marked
on their speedos which is the optimum range for Fuel
Efficiency.
The
Victor has a set of two lights, one green and one amber for helping
you know when you are doing good to your wallet and when you are exceeding
your earning capacity! Try riding in the green band and you will be
floored both by the low fuel consumption and also by the torquey nature
which helps you run to around 60kmph while holding a very steady throttle
hand. Wring the throttle way past the 5mm travel limit, the green
light which glows in the right pod will go out. Wring a tad further
and over the 8mm throttle travel then you unleash all the eight plus
horses which you can use to blow Fuel Efficiency to kingdom come. Even so what you will achieve is 54kmpl which is
the lowest we ever recorded on the Victor in the hurly burly of Pune
city rush hour riding. But ride with an eye and an effort to stay
in the green zone, the Victor will reward you day in and day out.
On three of our test runs with the bike firmly in the green zone and
just on a few instances did it blink off, we recorded mileage figures
of 90.7kmpl, 88kmpl and 88.9kmpl! I myself was amazed at this consistency
- you guessed it - I was at the control but was shocked equally by
my mind and throttle hand being firmly focused on keeping the green
light glowing as much as for the fuel consumption figures.
We put Sirish on it and he returned 86kmpl, Aspi came on and did 88kmpl
and then we stopped, point proved! If this is the sort of economiserly Performance the Victor can dole out consistently,
they have a winner on their hands. We had the bike for close to seven
days in Pune and we must have put in over 1800km which clearly suggests
that consistency shouldn't be a bother at all. Even on the highway
with an even more adventurous outlook we had the bike zipping at close
to its max speeds and she delivered close to 72kmpl. Do you need more
proof?
